If 2020 was a year marked by uncertainty and hope, then 2021 was a year of resilience and gratitude. A dark winter gave way to a more promising spring and the permission to perhaps begin venturing back out into the world again, slowly at first and then in a big way. Last year brought more adventures to incredible outdoor wonders, plus a long-awaited trip to Italy’s boot heel that had been two years in the making. When I first cancelled my trip to Puglia in 2020 I had no idea when it would be feasible to even begin thinking about traveling again.
It was a bit serendipitous too that the first flight I would take would be to Italy, and to my surprise it was a once in a lifetime time to visit the region. We found there to be few other tourists other than Italians on holiday, likely a getaway that they had also been yearning for during the most uncertain months of the pandemic. It was also wonderful to experience a country that was hit so hard at the onset of the pandemic getting back to the things that make Italy so special. It wasn’t easy, with all of the extra precautions, pre-booking and other preparations of checking the ever-changing restrictions, masking and sanitizing, but it was more than worth it.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2022!
