A Liebster Award Nomination

Liebster Award

Thanks to fellow travel blogger Gelati for Breakfast for nominating me for a Liebster Award!  “Liebster” is German for “dearest”, and the awards are a fun way for bloggers to help each other out by cross-promotion.  I’ve been blogging for a little less than a year now (never as often as I would like), and am appreciative for the opportunity to grow my audience while discovering other up-and-coming blogs.

Here’s how it works:

1. Thank the Liebster Blog presenter who nominated you and link back to their blog.  Thanks, Gelati for Breakfast

2. Post 11 facts about yourself, answer the 11 questions you were asked and create 11 questions for your nominees.  See below.

3. Nominate 11 blogs of 200 followers or less who you feel deserve to be noticed and leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been chosen.  See below.

4. Display the Liebster Award logo.  See above.

Here we go!

11 RANDOM FACTS ABOUT MYSELF

1. I’ve never had a pet in my life, unless you count the goldfish I won at the fair or the box turtle that took up residency in my backyard.  I would go out and feed him strawberry scraps and other fruit cuttings every morning before work, hence his name Fragola.

2. I’ve been drinking espresso with my dad when I was 3 years old.  I even had my own little demitasse cup with kittens on the side.

3. I starred in a musical production of Footloose when I was in high school.

4. I seemed to have “forgotten” how to ride a bike and found out the hard way in Rome.

5. I don’t like fish or eggs, but wish I did for their protein.

6. Like many people, my closet is color coordinated (in order of the rainbow), but mine has been that way since I was 10 years old.  I used to do the same with my Crayola crayons as a kid.

7. I met my husband in Italian class in college.

8. I never can spell the word “definitely”, it always comes out as defiantly (for example, “I’ll defiantly be there!”).

9. My favorite movie is Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

10. I have a traveling checklist that I’ve been using since I was a teenager.  It makes packing a breeze.

11. While on the subject of travel, I always bring Ziploc bags so that I can bring home treats from the places I visit.  It’s all about easing yourself back into everyday life!

11 QUESTIONS FROM GELATI FOR BREAKFAST

1. If you had to recommend one place for someone to travel to, what would that place be?

This is a really hard question since there are so many wonderful places to visit, but I would say Paris. It’s one of my favorite places in the world because of its beautiful sites, amazing food and overall vibe.

2. Where are you from?

Albuquerque, New Mexico (yes it’s a state).  You can’t beat 300+ days of sunshine a year and 4 mild seasons.

3. What is the best thing you’ve done so far this year?

The year has just begun, but I was recently in New York and I love just being in the city.  On a snowy morning I got up early, bundled up in search for a bagel with cream cheese and coffee and walked to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  No matter how many times I’ve been to the Met, I always seem to discover something new.

4. What is something a visitor MUST do in your home country?

Speaking of New York, I think the city is a must-see.  It truly is a melting pot of cultures and there’s something very inspirational and energizing about the city that I hope everyone can experience in their lifetime.

5. What is your favourite thing to cook?

Hands down, homemade pizza.  I make the dough and sauce from scratch, use fresh mozzarella and lots of vegetables for toppings.  Roasted eggplant, artichoke hearts and spinach are some of my favorites.

6. What is your favourite website other than social networking sites?

I just started to dabble in AFAR.  It’s like Pintrest for travelers – a great place to share travel experiences and discover new places and things to do from others.

7. What was the first country you visited outside your own?

Besides several places in the Caribbean, Paris is the first foreign country I’ve visited.  It’s still one of my favorite places in the world.

8. How many passports have you had in your life?

I’m on my second one!

9. What is the best foreign food you’ve eaten?

While it’s not really “foreign”, I love the warm crepes with Nutella that you can buy from street vendors in Paris.  I also had the best pesto pasta and limoncino in Cinque Terre.  I usually go easy on the carbs, but this dish was amazing!

10. Have you lived in a country other than your own?

Nope.  All the more reason to travel as often as possible!

11. Where did you spend your best New Years Eve ever?

Going out is always fun, but some of the best New Year’s Eve celebrations I’ve had were the ones spent at home.  Every few years my husband and I will stay in, make a big dinner and watch the ball drop – yoga pants and all.
